We are a very small band of
gamers who have an avid interest in Boardgames. We are based in Cornwall (England) and
were founded by Richard Parris (me !) and Bill Dove in April 1999.
For the inquisitive of you the
name Morat (Full name Chark Gavant-sha Gernow Morat Gurgee Dam Hazeze) comes from the
rather splendid Iain M. Banks novel "The Player of Games". Morat is THE Player
of Games, master of every board, computer and strategy game in the universe !!!. Well
worth a read if you get the chance.
HOW DID WE GET STARTED
?
Bill Dove is the inspiration
for these web pages and for my renewed interest in Boardgames. By pure chance I was
convinced to attend a "what do you think of your local newspaper" meeting where
for 1 hour of my time I would be plied with free drinks and given £5 for my trouble.
During the getting to know you
session with 7 other complete strangers I indicated that one of my hobbies was boardgaming
which for the non-boardgamers present (about all 7!!) was received with absolutely no
interest at all.
Fortunately for me though at
the very end of the session, when no-one else was within earshot, one of the strangers
plucked up the courage to finally admit that yes he "knew" a boardgamer ! and
his name was Bill Dove. Surely I must have heard of him he insisted, he owns over 1000 of
them !!!!!
I was gobsmacked to hear this
but more so to learn that Bill lived no more than 10 miles from my home !!!!
Having obtained Bill's phone
number a call later resulted in my meeting this gentleman at his house a week later. I
hastily typed up my paltry 45 game collection in an attempt to convince him I am a genuine
guy.
Bill graciously looked at my
list and proceeded to indicate that he owned them all too !!!
I was then introduced to
Bills' loft which for most people is an area reserved for cramming in all the items you
just dare not throw away but have to store somewhere!!!. For Bill though this area is
exclusively reserved for his 1000 plus boardgame collection in dehumidified heaven.
From that point onwards Bill
and I meet on a semi regular basis supplimented by our wives and friends and anyone else
we can convince to dabble and get the games on !!!
Bill's collection of games
included many I was familiar with but even more that I have never heard of. These
"new" games come under the title "German Boardgames" and a whole new interest
was born.
WHERE AND WHEN DO WE
MEET ?
We currently meet on a very
irregular basis approximately once a fortnight and sharing the location between our
respective houses !
We invite you to contact us if
