ELFENLAND - BOARD GAME - 2 TO 6 PLAYERS
Report by Richard
Five this week as we welcomed back our
friends Les and Ian. This game was requested by Ann who always enjoys this game. Checking
my own records sees why as she won the last game we played and Dirty Dick (me) stopped her
from getting the full 20 !!!
Surprisingly we needed a brush up on the
rules and once this was done the game progressed smoothly albeit a little slowly.
As does sometimes happen there was a split
4 to 1 on the general routes chosen and Bill was the one who had to fend for himself most
of the time. To be fair he did very well considering help was not always close to hand.
I made the mistake of thinking that my
opponents were also thinking and found out that they were not. Seeing a player place a
tile on a route YOU know requires two of them kind of makes you think, ******* he's done
that deliberately !! Only then do you realise that when he comes to play his cards he has
made the mistake and thought only one was needed. The best laid plans of elves and men eh
!!!!
That aside we all made the best of a bad
lot and I probably won only because I remembered that if it is a tie on cities, he or she
who has the most cards left will be the winner.
It was a very very close game and this made
it all that more enjoyable.

HOLIDAY AG - BOARD GAME - 2 TO 6 PLAYERS
Report by Richard
Just time to squeeze in this classic and I
feel underrated game. Saying that I have never done well at it and made no exception this
time !! I blame being rang up about work halfway through.....oh well worth a try.......
As per all the previous games of this Bill
was first to get a 14 long Holiday chain and nabbed the 10 points. This was to prove
inconsequential as it turned out in the final reckoning.
I have to say that Les gifted Bill with
these 10 points and Bill thanked her greatly whereas we all berated her !!! I can not
comment on strategy as the ones I employ have never borne fruit so I will say nowt.
However I still believe a certain amount of
non-telegraphing of your key intent is beneficial and I see the better players of this
game doing just that.
Bill showed a clearer understanding of the
game and seemed to be in the lead form the start but both Ann and Les seemed to be doing
very well whereas Ian and I rooted around for the scraps at the foot of the coring ladder
!!!
All in all an excellent little filler and
one we shall play again. Another well done to Bill for winning this game.
